HIQA – Raising Awareness of Adult Safeguarding

A background document to inform the development of the national standards for adult safeguarding was published on the day of the seminar. This comprehensive document summarises international, national and academic evidence for adult safeguarding.

Short video created by HIQA and the Mental Health Commission was also launched at the seminar. The video promotes awareness about what safeguarding is and how it is connected to people’s rights, health and wellbeing.

 

Ted Talks Palliative Hub

Ted Talks are available on the All Ireland Institute of Hospice & Palliative Care Hub specifically relating to palliative and end of life care.

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues.

Planning for the future with COPD

COPD

The booklet was crucially developed by people living with COPD, family carers, a respiratory healthcare professional, COPD Support Ireland and the IHF. It contains information on advance healthcare directives, planning legal affairs, talking to others about your wishes, palliative care needs and a list of other resources which people with COPD might find helpful. COPD is an umbrella term used to describe progressive lung diseases including chronic bronchitis or emphysema. It is a long-term illness that cannot be cured. Over 500,000 people in Ireland have COPD. Ireland also has the highest rate of COPD admissions to hospital in the EU.

 

Resources for Former Carers

Care Alliance Ireland has published a booklet to support people whose caring has ended – as they enter a new phase in their lives. When caring ends many family carers experience a range of emotions – grief, exhaustion, isolation – a real void in their lives can emerge.

AIIHPC Palliative Hub

AIIHPC recently launched The Palliative Hub (http://www.thepalliativehub.com/about-us), an online gateway to information and resources about palliative care which includes:
